The Importance of Proper Input

We’ve been taught since childhood that what we feed our body is going to have a direct impact on how we look and feel. If we’re constantly feeding ourselves junk, we’re probably not going to look or feel how we want.

If only vegetables tasted better! Am I right?

Our mind is no different. What we feed it matters. If we’re feeding our mind negativity and self doubt, our confidence is obviously not going to be as high as if we’re feeding ourselves positive messages and affirmations.

What goes in determines what comes out.

Output = Input

When it comes to your voice over business, the same truth holds true.

If you’re always investing in yourself and your business through great coaching, constant training and continual practice, your output is going to reflect that.

On the other hand, if you stop learning, assume you know it all, and settle into a routine, your output will, likewise, reflect your choice.

If you’re stuck right now, my guess is it has more to do with your input than anything else.

When I was struggling to find work on Voice123 recently, despite previously having incredible success on that site, I booked a coaching session with J Michael Collins… the King of Online Casting. After that session, I booked two jobs.

When I’m struggling to find new leads, I start reading blogs and articles about lead generation.

When I’m looking for new ways to improve my marketing, I’ll pick up a new book on the subject.

Output = Input!

The Importance of Proper Input

If you’re going to continue to grow and find success in the voice over business (or any business for that matter) you need to constantly evaluate your input.

  • Are you keeping on top of trends?
  • Are you learning new strategies?
  • Are you consulting mentors?
  • Are you working with great coaches?
  • Are you investing in your learning?
  • Are you improving your online presence?
  • Are you staying on top of technical developments?

Talk to any top voice actor and you’ll find a person who is constantly improving themselves through training, practice, coaching and education.

If you’re not seeing the results you want to see (the output), it’s because you’re not feeding yourself with the proper input.

What are can you start to improve today?
